It’s an easy, quick, and satisfying meal that is ideal for weeknights, offering warm flavors and comforting textures that will satisfy the whole family.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes (canned or fresh)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients and prepare by chopping the onion and garlic, measuring orzo and broth.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat with olive oil. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and oregano.
  3. Add chopped onions to the skillet and cook until translucent, about 3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Mix in the diced tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes. Pour in beef broth and bring to a boil.
  5. Add the orzo pasta, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes or until orzo is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid. Stir occasionally.
  6. Remove from heat, garnish with fresh parsley, and sprinkle with grated cheese if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Stir occasionally during simmering to prevent sticking.
  • Use high-quality beef broth for best flavor.
  • Adjust cooking time based on package instructions for the orzo.
  • If mixture becomes too thick, add a splash of hot water or broth.
