A decadent baked potatoes au gratin with roasted garlic, melted cheese, and a crunchy golden topping making it a perfect side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves roasted garlic, sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Gruyere, or mozzarella)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, then gradually add heavy cream, stirring until thickened.
  3. Add salt, pepper, and most of the cheese to the sauce, stirring until smooth.
  4. Layer sliced potatoes in the baking dish, pouring some sauce and sprinkling roasted garlic slices between layers.
  5. Repeat layers, finishing with cheese on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 40-45 minutes, uncover and broil for 3-5 minutes until golden.
  7. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve hot.
