- 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves roasted garlic, sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Gruyere, or mozzarella)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
- In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, then gradually add heavy cream, stirring until thickened.
- Add salt, pepper, and most of the cheese to the sauce, stirring until smooth.
- Layer sliced potatoes in the baking dish, pouring some sauce and sprinkling roasted garlic slices between layers.
- Repeat layers, finishing with cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40-45 minutes, uncover and broil for 3-5 minutes until golden.
- Garnish with fresh herbs and serve hot.
Notes
- For a crispy top, broil for 2-3 minutes at the end.
- Use any cheese combination you prefer.
- Ensure potatoes are thinly sliced for even cooking.
