Ingredients
Scale
- 6 croissants, torn into pieces
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 4 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups whole milk or heavy cream
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional toppings: powdered sugar, whipped cream, fresh berries
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Break the croissants into bite-sized pieces and evenly distribute them across the baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk or cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined. Pour this custard mixture evenly over the croissant pieces, ensuring they soak up the mixture for a rich flavor.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate evenly over the soaked croissants. Add chopped nuts or caramel bits if desired for extra texture and flavor.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set. Adjust baking time for desired gooeyness.
Notes
- Use day-old croissants for the best absorption and flavor, but fresh croissants work well too.
- To prepare ahead, refrigerate the assembled casserole overnight and bake in the morning, adding 5-10 minutes to the baking time.
- Top with powdered sugar, whipped cream, or fresh berries before serving for extra flair.
