Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of rye bread
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pickles and lettuce for garnishing
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15 minutes.
- Form ground beef into four equal patties, season with salt and pepper.
- Cook beef patties in the skillet over medium-high heat for about 4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
- Lightly butter one side of each bread slice. Place two slices, buttered side down, on a skillet.
- Place a cheese slice on each bread, top with a beef patty, caramelized onions, and another cheese slice.
- Cover with remaining bread slices, buttered side up. Grill until golden brown and cheese melts, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Serve hot with pickles and lettuce on the side.
Notes
- Use thick-cut rye bread for best texture and flavor.
- Ensure onions are well caramelized for sweetness.
- You can substitute cheddar with Swiss or American cheese.
