- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add sugar, salt, eggs, and melted butter to the yeast mixture, stirring well.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms. Knead for about 8 minutes until smooth.
- Fold in dried cranberries and nuts if using.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf or braid.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, substitute some of the milk with cream.
- Try adding orange zest for extra zestiness.
- This bread pairs wonderfully with butter or cream cheese.
