Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-seasoned)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Prepare three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumb-Parmesan mixture. Dip each chicken piece into flour, then eggs, then coat thoroughly with breadcrumb mixture.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Transfer to a baking dish.
- Spread marinara sauce evenly over each chicken breast. Top generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Garnish with chopped basil or parsley. Serve hot, optionally with pasta or salad.
Notes
- Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for enhanced flavor.
- Searing the chicken until golden locks in juices and creates a crispy crust.
- Opt for homemade marinara sauce for better taste.
- Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick if desired.
