Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cinnamon sugar (for coating)
- Cooking spray or parchment paper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or cooking spray.
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously until the dough forms a smooth ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Let cool slightly.
- Add vanilla extract and the egg to the dough, mixing thoroughly until glossy and smooth.
- Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe strips or bite-sized dollops onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between pieces.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning halfway through for even baking.
- While baking, prepare the cinnamon sugar mixture. Once baked, roll warm churro bites in cinnamon sugar until fully coated.
- Serve immediately with chocolate sauce, caramel, or dusted powdered sugar.
Notes
- Ensure the dough is cooled slightly before piping to prevent tearing.
- For extra flavor, brush baked churros with melted butter before coating in cinnamon sugar.
- Reheat leftovers in a 350°F (175°C) oven for about 5 minutes to regain their crispiness.
