  • Total Time: 40-45 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 package (32 oz) Tater Tots
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional toppings: chopped green onions, bacon bits, additional cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until fragrant. Add ground beef or turkey, breaking it apart. Season with salt and pepper, cook until browned and cooked through. Drain excess grease and transfer to a bowl.
  2. In the same bowl, stir in cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Mix well.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the meat mixture evenly in a greased baking dish. Pour the creamy filling over the meat layer. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  4. Arrange Tater Tots evenly over the cheese layer, pressing slightly into the mixture for even crispiness.
  5. Bake for 25–30 minutes until Tater Tots are golden brown. For extra crispiness, finish with a few minutes under the broiler, watching carefully.

Notes

  • For added flavor, sprinkle chopped green onions or bacon bits on top before serving.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes or microwave until warm.
