Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80% lean recommended)
- 4 burger buns
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: pickles, bacon, lettuce, tomato
- Cooking oil or butter for toasting the buns
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with chopped onions, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 equal patties, about 3/4 inch thick, with a small indent in the center.
- Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, adding shredded cheese during the last minute to melt. Cover to assist melting.
- Lightly butter the buns and toast until golden brown on the skillet or grill.
- Spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun. Add the cooked burger patty, then layer with ketchup, mustard, and optional toppings. Cap with the top bun and serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add pickles, bacon, or your favorite vegetables.
- Use quality ground beef for the best juiciness and flavor.
- If using a grill, brush with oil to prevent sticking.
